About
Heat Treatment
Quenching oils are blended from solvent-refined base oil with specially selected additives that facilitate fast quenching through proper and controlled cooling. Quenching is the process of rapidly cooling a piece of metal in order to achieve or modify specific properties like hardness, strength, or toughness. The quenching process is a crucial step in the heat treatment of metals. Rapid cooling minimizes the amount of time metal spends at high temperatures and prevents faults that would otherwise occur.
Quenching oils serve two primary functions: control furnaces during quenching and enhance the wetting of steel during quenching to minimize the formation of undesirable thermal and transformational gradients which may lead to increased distortion and cracking.
